MAYFLOWER SUPPLY FALL/WINTER 2014/15

I'm a huge advocate of the lookbooks that Liz creates for Mayflower Supply (read about their previous lookbooks here, here and here). Super creative, Liz is part of a New York collective of friends that I've admired from afar via the world of blogging and instagram for several years now. Two more of these gals, Hannah and Emily have come together in the making of this most recent lookbook - photographed by Hannah Metz and modelled and styled by Emily Theobald. 

For FW14/5, Liz was inspired by Woody Allen's leading ladies in the seventies; namely Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. Hence, slightly androgynous styling with a seventies-meets-nineties (a decade that Emily pulls off flawlessly) aesthetic. You can't go wrong in floor length velvet skirts, rolled-up mum jeans, oversized denim jackets and borrowed-from-the-boyfriend knits with your hair oh-so-effortlessly tucked in. SNUG

I know this editorial has been going viral and you're probably sick of the sight of it, but it's just so completely perfect for how I feel right now. The heatings on, there's been a scattering of frost spiking the tips of the grass in the morning and all I want to do is wrap up in an oversized cosy knit. At the same time, I'm not quite ready to let go of summer though. Which is why this shoot is so de rigueur - covetable, chunky, out-of-proportion knitwear teamed with bare bellies, bare legs and those man-repeller chunky flat sandals that we've been donning all summer. There's only one way to go here: buy your knitwear in size XXL, preferably with the cuffs hanging way down and concealing your hands, and team with thick walking socks and sturdy sandals. Birkenstocks' sheepskin-lined style will get you top marks.

MAYFLOWER SUPPLY SPRING 2014

I don't often get excited about look-books any more. They can all get very same-y and the clothes pictured rarely interest me. Every once in a while, however, something comes along that captivates my attention. 

I've been following @mayflowersupply on Instagram for a while now, relishing the sneak-peeks that Liz has been sharing, teasing out this look-book. Combining all of the things I love at the moment (nature, plants, denim, greenhouses, normcore, simplicity - oh yes, and film photography), the look-book has now been released! And it's a beauty!

FRESH!

Would you complain if my blog evolved into a Zara-appreciation site? 

The super-brand's latest look-book is everything that I look for in an editorial shoot: clean and concise, yet interesting and directional. We don't need to see the model's faces; let the focus remain on the detail of the clothes (with long unruly hair thrown in for good measure). It's shoots like this that make you want to actually buy the garments pictured.

PARIS JE T'AIME

There's something about Paris that brings out a fresh and contemporary attitude towards dressing whilst also constantly referencing the nonchalant gamine girls that the city is renowned for.

Clean lines and oversized silhouettes have been regular fixtures at Celine, Stella McCartney and Chloe for several years now; yet each season the designs evolve to stay ahead of the game.The editorial below encapsulates an aesthetic that is as retro-inspired as it is modern, hinting to the 1970's and Jane Birkin's effortless style whilst also setting the tone for the season ahead. 

High-waisted wide legged pants, sweeping oversized dress coats and twee straw boaters are revamped for 2014 with the addition of masculine Oxford shoes, chambray shirts and T-shirts borrowed from the boyfriend and statement oversized culottes. The one piece that is going to be on my mind for the rest of 2014? Topshop's loosely structured cream silk dress with the low slung waistline; the perfect style to dress up or dress down whatever the season.

Ooh la la!
