A vivid array of print, colour and embellishment was paraded down the catwalk at Dolce & Gabbana. The collection began with elegantly cut silk dresses; depicting images of ceramic vases, puppetry and street theatrics in the designers’ native Sicily. Worn with vibrantly printed silk head scarves and ornate ribbon and pom-pom earrings, this was a summer daytime dressing master-class.
Mixed amongst the colourful prints were fit-and-flare dresses and high-waisted shorts in bold deckchair stripes; adding to the summer holiday aesthetic. Silhouettes were typical for the Italian designers – feminine and sensual with 1950s influences.
The extravagant eveningwear finale began with black Sicilian lace sheer dresses and elaborately embroidered raffia designs. The show concluded with straw and woven raffia moulded into complex corsetry, mirroring classic Sicilian wicker baskets.
Marni is always a fashion week favourite. Forward-thinking silhouettes, simple yet awesome prints and an innate sense of style. SS13 offered clean minimal oversized shapes, geometric prints and a breathe of fresh air.
