Wallflower

Beautiful floral walls (and sofas) make a background for some of my favourite photographs. Sometimes they challenge the subject of the picture, try to insist that we give our attention to them. Sometimes they are subtle, and we only notice the detail on our second glance. Either way, these backgrounds make these photographs what they are.

By The Time It Gets Dark

Sometimes, you don't have to trawl tumblr and Recordis photography and flickr to find a talented photographer. These photographs were taken by my very good friend, photographer helen kirkbright. They document her time spent in Australia and a holiday in Spain. I love photographs captured on film cameras. We're so used to polished, shiny brand spanking new digital images that it's refreshing and interesting to see the world through the eyes of humble old-school film. Please visit helen's blog to see more of her work

Blog Crush #1

A new feature for 2010. My favourite new blog finds.

I couldn't really tell you anything about this blog, or even the name of the dark messy haired beauty that writes it [EDIT: they are twins named Olivia and Julia] , but sometimes, pictures speak for themselves. Beautiful vintage dresses, stunning (Swedish??) backdrops and those mournful puppt dog eyes. Check it out. If you're like me and you love dreamy photography, you won't be disappointed.

Background Noise

wooden floors, hedgerows,
leaves blowing in the wind,
faded patterned curtains,
a little red box,
a river,
masks.

It's not always the people who capture my attention in a photograph.
Sometimes, the background and props are worth looking at twice

Ten days until Christmas!!
I still have lots of shopping and wrapping presents to do, how about you?
Tonight, I have wrapped the presents I have already bought,
and recovered the Christmas tree after Rose pounced on it and knocked it over.

beautiful photographs by:
sarah hermans, reasons to be cheerful, niotillfem,
dev hynes, elena marshall, dev hynes, deers and
